The word Shiatsu literally means "fingerpressure". It is a therapy used to relieve many problems such as Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain, Stress, Digestive Challenges, and Fatigue, Finger Pressure is applied along the suface of the body following "energy channels" known as Meridians. The energy flowing through Meridians is known as Chi or Prana.

Shiatsu is an attempt to open up blockages and help the circulation of Energy so that it flows to the particular organ. There are 12 main Meridians each corresponding to or relating to specific organs.

Shiatsu can be applied using fingers, feet, palms, knees and elbows. The receiver can be dressed or undressed (and draped).It can be done on a futon (on the floor).The recipient will feel the therapist moving along the surface while applying pressure to Tsubo;s (pressure points)
